PALANPUR : Residents of as many as 384 villages and six municipalities will go without water from Tuesday for two days. The cause of water cut is said to be a breach in the pipeline coming from Dharoi dam that was discovered by officials of water supplies and sewerage board on Sunday.
Officials are probing the cause of the breach which could be on account of high water pressure.
Executive engineer of the board in Mehsana DP Chaudhary said,"We have informed the people through various media about the forthcoming disruption of water supply."
He said the areas that will be affected are those falling under the municipalities of Kheralu, Vadanagar, Visnagar, Satlasna, Unjha and Palanpur along with the villages falling under the gram panchyats of Danta, Ambaji and 384 villages of Mehsana, Patan and Banaskatha districts.
Officials said that while the partial supply of water will be restored in two days, it will take sometime to restore complete supply.
Sources said that there are chances that the 1400 mm diameter pipeline got breached because of rust. The pipeline was laid in early 1990s. It is infamous for repeated leakages and problems in water supply.
"We will provide the residents water through tankers where needed," said president of Palanpur municipal board Hasmukh Parihar.
